At Buddina State School, Ink Duck delivered a new General Learning Area building that thoughtfully embraces South East Queensland’s climate while enhancing connections to the school’s natural surroundings. Designed to prioritise light, volume, colour, and breezes, the building creates a vibrant and welcoming environment for students and staff.
Split into two wings, the building features generous verandas that are strategically positioned to capture cooling ocean breezes from the north while offering views of the school oval and the serene Bimbimbie Rainforest to the south. This connection to the natural environment was integral to the design, fostering a seamless relationship between the indoor and outdoor learning spaces.
The communal spaces between the east and west wings showcase a striking double-height roofline that allows natural light to pour in while channelling breezes through both ends of the building. These spaces also offer covered outdoor learning areas, encouraging flexibility and interaction among students.
Vibrant splashes of colour throughout the design bring energy and warmth, creating an atmosphere that supports creativity and engagement
